The Babusar Top Pass

Babusar Top Pass is a mountain pass with a height of 13,691 ft (4,173 meters) above sea level. The top of Babusar top is the highest place in the whole Kaghan Valley, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The distance from Naran to Babusar is 65 KM (1:50 min). The pass connects the Naran and Kaghan Valley (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) with Gilgit Baltistan via Thak Nala with the Chilas area on the Karakoram Highway (KKH). The road beyond Naran valley gets to Batakundi, Burawai, Jalkhand, and Gittidas till Babusar top.

The Karakoram Highway (also known as the KKH) is the highest paved road in the world connecting China and Pakistan at Khunjerab pass. The road gets snow-covered during winters, and the snowfall starts in the last week of October.

History of Babusar Top Pass

Babusar pass connects Gilgit Baltistan with Kaghan valley via Chilas during summers. From Babusar top, you can sight Rakaposhi mountain on your north, while on the Kaghan side you can spot Polo ground. The nearby surrounding peaks include Malika Parbat and Toshe Ri (Sarwali Peak). In 1890 the British built this shorter track across Babusar, which directly connects Gilgit and British India.

Currently, Babusar road is completely paved, however, it is damaged from some areas due to the landslides. Additionally, there are some tourist points after Naran, including Bata Kundi, Jalkhand, Burawai, Besal, and Gittidas. It is recommended to inspect your vehicle before going to Babusar, as the road is quite sloppy. Also, if you have any mechanical issues with your car then you can get mechanics from Naran and Batakundi. The scenery around the Babusar road is as amazing as you can imagine. Lush green mountains with snow-covered peaks (June), along with Lulusar lake make this road perfect for a road trip.

Currently, the weather at Babusar top pass is sunny, the snow from the mountains has melted. Leaving the mountains lush green with amazing scenery. Naran is at a distance of 80 km from Babusar top pass. The road is fully paved, however, the road sections going through waterfalls are damaged. So, you need to be careful in that areas of the Babusar Naran road.

Naran height from sea level is around 7904 feet. It has hotels, restaurants and many other facilities for tourists. It snows during November to April in Naran.
